What Kind of a Dumb Name is That??

Yesterday I wrote to you about Fit Yummy Mummy, the program that has Moms throwing away their “fat pants” all over the world in droves.

A few of you had some questions, which I always love to answer…

Q. “What kind of a dumb name is that, anyway??”

A. Ah yes, a rose by any other name…

It’s surprising how often readers write in simply to ask me about the name of a program.

“Mummy” needs no explanation, right? We’re all Mummies or Daddies in the early years, especially when we’re practicing that foreign language only parents can decipher… baby talk!

Q. “I’ve got a “pooch” on my lower abdomen since my first pregnancy. Will this help?”

But that’s not always true.

Regular cardio exercises cause pain, injury, and don’t do much to get you fit.

Look at long distance runners. These people run miles and miles each day. Yet most of them look soft and almost sickly. Plus their injury rate is HIGH.

Now look at sprinters. They’re in awesome shape, with very tight, firm bodies. They look healthier, feel healthier, and have more energy, along with far fewer injuries.

Short bursts of exercise is the way to go. Scientific studies have proven this time and time again.

If cardio is B.S., why have I been told for years (decades!) to do it?

If cardio doesn’t work, why have I been told for years (decades!) to do it???

Great question.

Frankly, people, including the experts, just didn’t know any better.

If you have something good (which exercise is) it just seems logical that doing more of it is even better.

But the fact is, hours of cardio each week, and even traditional strength training, will only get you so far.

If you bake a pizza at 200 degrees, after a long time it’ll be done. But it won’t look as good, and may not even taste as good as it would have if you had baked it at 400 or 450.

At the higher temperatures your pizza could be done in 8 to 12 minutes (if not frozen) In that time the crust will become golden, the cheese will melt and brown, and the flavors will be superb.

At 200 degrees, the crust will probably never brown, and instead turn tough and chewy. The cheese will look like you left it on your dashboard on a hot summer day. and the flavor… after baking for such a long time, there probably won’t be much flavor to speak of.

Now, I probably shouldn’t be talking about pizza to people who want to (me included.)

But it’s a good analogy.

If you work out a little bit for a long time (like an hour of treadmill walking) you’ll get exercise.

You’ll even get into better shape.

But you won’t get into as good of shape as someone who uses resistance training to fatigue for short bursts of time (I’m oversimplifying, but you get the idea.)

Sometimes shorter is better. And fifteen minutes of the RIGHT kind of exercising done the right way will do more to make you fit and than an hour or two of traditional boring cardio.

In fact, cutting your workout time and frequency in half or less will double your results and skyrocket your success!
